White-faced Heron at Lime Kiln Bay

from $15.00

In the late afternoon, early in spring, I was on my way out of Lime Kiln Bay in Oatley when I saw a white-faced heron in a gap in the mangroves. The tide had reached its high point about an hour before, and the heron was standing on a dead tree waiting for the water to recede enough to forage. The light was perfect, with the angled sunlight lighting up the heron just right, and the sunlight shimmering on the mangrove leaves around it and on the water behind. I had only a few minutes so I could catch the bus home, and I think I captured this moment better than I hoped at the time.
